Working in collaboration with the University of Liverpool and led by Dr. Cesare Parise and Dr. Irene Senna, this project focuses on developing research prototypes to validate the safety, efficacy, and usability of navigation and hazard avoidance technologies that are designed to support individuals who are Sight-Impaired (SI) or Severely Sight Impaired (SSI) in both indoor and outdoor environments.

The project brought together D Squared’s multidisciplinary design and engineering team alongside Luka Kille from the Inclusionaries Lab, whose expertise in inclusive/human-centred design and lived experience of visual impairment added an invaluable perspective to the day’s work.

 

Our in-depth understanding of industrial, mechanical, and electrical design processes, combined with our investment in the latest software and equipment, enabled us to rapidly produce both visual and functional prototypes supported by AI-generated product and use-scenario imagery that will be used to facilitate ongoing research activities and drive stakeholder engagement.
